Mr Kersahw – Green 6 teacher Ms Lea-Wilson – Green 6 teacher
Ms Martin - Blue 6 TA Mr Simms – Red 6 TA
This term, in Year 6, our topic is ‘When Are We Home?’ The children will be exploring how different environments influence our sense of identity. They will also be learning about South Africa’s apartheid and making comparisons with events in the UK and the wider world.
In English, the books we will be studying are ‘Way Home’ and ‘Journey to Jo’burg’. During Mathematics lessons, the children will be learning number and place value, addition and subtraction, properties of shapes, multiplication and division, fractions, and position and direction. In Science we will be learning about animals, including humans.
PE kits need to be brought in on a Wednesday (Red Six), on a Wednesday (Blue Six), and on a Thursday (Green Six). Homework will be learning weekly spellings, practising times tables and reading for 20-30 minutes a day. Children will be given a reading book from the class library which can be exchanged for a new one, once they have read it. These are signed out in class. In addition to this, children are expected to complete 3 written tasks per week in their reading journals. This book should be handed in each Monday.
Your child has also been issued with an Independent Learning book today. In here, you will find the suggested homework tasks for our topic (Ninja learning). The projects are due in on Thursday 11th October. We will celebrate the work by critiquing it and awarding a range of prizes.
In addition to this, now that children are in Year Six, we expect them to attend from 8.30 in the morning. This is in order to provide them with the best opportunities to achieve in their forthcoming SATs tests.
We look forward to working with you – if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to make an appointment to talk with us after school.
