Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope you all had a great holiday!
Please find important information about the term/school year ahead:

Punctuality
School starts at 8:50am and finishes at 15:15pm. If you are unable to collect your child please contact the school office with details of who will be collecting them.

As we begin to transition the children into Year 1, I’d like to invite you to join the children as they enter the classroom, find their trays and locate their names on the coat pegs. This will help the children to settle in and begin feeling comfortable in their new surroundings.

Reading/Book bags
Home reading makes a real difference to children’s learning and progress. At this stage in their schooling, reading with your child for 20 minutes every day is the best thing you can do to help them. When you read with your child, please sign the journal or write a comment about how they got on with the book. We are encouraging children to select books independently and in order to do so we will change books once a week. Your child will bring home one level appropriate book and two bedtime books. Please feel free to read the bedtime book to your child.

Medical
Please make sure the office has up to date details of any allergies or medical conditions your child has. Also, please ensure we have the correct contact details for you.

Name labels
Our school can get quite warm throughout the year and children may need to take their jumpers off at some stage in the day. Please help the Year 1 team and your child by marking their name clearly in all items of clothing.

PE
PE will be every Tuesday. Your child needs to bring their PE kit each week including trainers, trousers, a t-shirt and jumper. Kits also need to be labelled. I am happy for your child to leave their P.E. kit in school during each half term.

Our Learning
Our topic for this term is all about ‘how we are connected to each other’. We will be exploring ourselves, family, friends, and our community.

In Maths we will be focusing on addition and subtraction, place value within 50, multiples of 2, 5 and 10 and measurement. Please take every opportunity to count with your child and recognise numbers in everyday life. By the end of Year 1, children need to be able to recognise o’clock and half past the hour times. It would also be very helpful if you could encourage your child to become familiar with coins and notes and get used to paying for items costing up to £1.00

Please ensure your child brings their book bag and has an appropriate jacket/coat with them in school every day.

If you have any questions, please feel free to speak to myself, Ms Karciauskiene, or Ms Zalal.

Kind regards,

Miss Dickinson and the Red 1 team
