Our project
Happy New Year to you all! We are excited to be back at school and to commence our learning for the term. This term our driving question is; ‘What if London floods?’ There will be a strong focus on Science, Design & Technology and Geography. We will be learning about climate change and how our planet is changing. The children will also gain a deeper understanding of the water cycle and will study structures such as; bridges, barriers, dams, floating houses and boats. This project based learning will be centered around; team work, enquiry-lead learning and practical learning.

To support our project we will be reading ‘Floodland’ by Marcus Sedgwick. Children will work heavily around problem solving and will work towards creating and building their own structure to solve real-life problems. We are very excited to commence our new project. The project will be enriched through all areas of the curriculum. In Math’s, the children will collect data, create graphs, charts and conduct gap analysis.

In P.E, the children will be enriched with Swimming for the term. Swimming will be every Friday. Children must bring a towel, swimwear and a swimming hat. We are very fortunate to also have basketball training with a sports coach at local secondary school, St Thomas the Apostle which takes place on a Tuesday. The class allocation for this session will rotate and Green Five are currently receiving basketball lessons.

Please encourage your children to practice their spellings and times tables at home. Your child should also be spending at least twenty minutes reading at home every evening. Please also encourage your child to participate in their Independent Learning. We thank you for your continued support.

We have welcomed Mr Bayly to the year group who will be the Student Teacher with Red Five until half term.

As ever, if you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to come and speak to the class teacher.

Many thanks,

Miss Davis, Mrs De Carvahlo and Mr Taylor
