Our Year 6 team is:

This term, in Year 6, our new topic will be ‘Would you rather have a live donkey or a dead lion?’ The children will be investigating themes around historical global expedition and venturing into the unknown.
In English, the books we will be studying are ‘Ice Tap’ and ‘The Picture History of Great Explorers’. In Guided Reading, classes will be reading either ‘Wonder’, ‘The Other Side of Truth’ or ‘Stig of the Dump’. During Mathematics lessons, the children will be learning about the following areas of mathematics: number (including place value), addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, algebra, geometry (properties of shapes), decimals and measurement (mass). In Science, we will be learning about Evolution and Inheritance.
Homework will be learning weekly spellings, practising times tables, completing a maths task and reading for 20-30 minutes a day. Children will be given a reading book from the class library which can be exchanged for a new one, once they have read it. These are signed out in class. In addition to this, children are expected to complete a piece of English Comprehension work to complete every week. The English Comprehension work should be handed in each Monday.

Parents are reminded that school for Year 6 children starts at 8:30am. It is really important they are not missing out on the learning that takes place at this time.
